Liquid lake

The heavy rains and high temperatures of the past week have been bad news for the local ski hills but it has been wonderful for the lake. The ice is gone and the paddlers are back. Vlad and Ty made the best of the lack of snow for X-country skiing by getting out in K1 today, along with Katja in K1, pictured above, and Jeff in K1 and C1.

Ski Paddling in Deep Cove

Burnaby Lake is still frozen so the ocean is our winter playground. John and Jeff in surf ski and Heide and Katja in K2 headed out Saturday for a 17 km paddle up Indian Arm. The Arm was flat calm with the only wave action created by the motorboats that also came out to play in the sun. After the paddle, Bob from Deep Cove Kayaking brought out the new V10 surf ski and the Endurance 18 from Epic Kayaks for test driving. Nice boats Bob, thanks for letting us try them out.

Sunday training fozen!

The lake is now frozen, seems like just last week were were out paddling in light shirts and complaining of the rain. Hey, wait a minute, we were paddling just last week! The weather is supposed to warm this week so hopefully our lake will soon return to its liquid form. On Saturday a few groups of us managed to get out on the ocean, Katja and Heide in a trainer K2, Jeff, John and Ben in surf ski and Graham in K1. We didn't take any pictures today but the picture above shows Stinky looking as though he is wondering if we hadn't forgot about a boat for him?

Isn't she cute?

Anyone wanna guess whether this moment started with a slip on the dock? Looks like our athletes and coach are making the best of the unseasonably cold weather we are currently experiencing. Won't be long till our beloved rain returns to wash away all this white stuff.

Winter Paddlers

Apparently it was cold at practise Friday, not sure who these kids are but they look chilly!
