Trailer loaded and bound for Regina

The boats are loaded and the trailer is ready to go. Most of the gang has left today headed for the Canada Day Regatta in Regina. Tonight the trailer and bus load of athletes, coaches and chaperones will travel as far as Calgary, then on to Regina on Friday. The racing gets started on Saturday and continues through Monday, after which the return trip begins. A few of the racers will continue on from Regina to attend races at Lake Placid, New York and for Canadian National Team Trials #3 taking place in Montreal. A big thanks to BCKCers Dave and Hugh for volunteering to tow the trailer to and from Regina and to Ron and Coach Lynn for braving the bus to help chaperone the athletes.

June 26 Monday Knight Biathlon

Tonight's Monday Knight Biathlon consisted of a 3 km run followed by an 8 km paddle. It was a scorcher with the temperature in the high 20's, fortunately there was a light breeze to cool us off on the water. The lake is getting very weedy so the paddle course was 4 laps to the 1000m mark. The winning crew was Heide, Conor, Katja and Jeff with second place taken by Kiran, Rebecca, Darrell and Dan. Conor had his 15th birthday yesterday so voluntarily took his requisite plunge in the lake. Kiran needed a little encouragement to follow through on her pre-race smack that Jeff could push her in the lake if she were to be lapped. The result is obvious.

Kids lessons on Burnaby Lake

Tuesday was the wrap up of the first 6-week lessons program. The kids group had a great time as shown in the pictures above. And some of them even could paddle the boats in the more traditional sit down method, although standing seems to work well too! Come out and join the fun, lessons will continue in July as well as the many other programs available to kids and adults.

June 12 Monday Knight Race

Tonight's race featured a 4 km run followed by a 6 km paddle. Race winners John, Keith, Kiran, Conor and Darrell display the prized trophy. Second place was taken by Heide, Rebecca, Dan and Jeff. The lake was flat calm tonight but the weeds are close to taking over the lake making the water feel somewhat thicker than usual.

The second place team consisted of Kiran, Rebecca, Emily and Heide. This evening's event consisted of a 2 km run followed by an 8 km paddle. To even out the team numbers, 2 of the mens team member's names were drawn from a hat after the race and those times were not counted in the results. Darrell and Jeff take one for the team!
