More Bantam/Masters Champs

Sunday's racing saw 4 crews entered in the masters C4 200m race. BCKC boats consisted of Dan and Tom with Rikst and Lauren from FCRCC as well as Hugh, Daryl and Jeff B. with Jim from FLCC and finally Micky, Darrell, Dave and Jeff. We are now getting to the point where boat availability rather than paddlers is limiting the number of entries in the C4 events.
Daryl's son Max enjoys time on the water in K2 with Dad.
The regatta weekend was wrapped up with some very exciting war canoe and dragon boat racing. BCKC brought out 2 war canoes to allow other clubs to assemble teams to compete against BCKC and RCKC. The 200m masters race saw BCKC finish 1st ahead of the RCKC crew supplemented with Cascade paddlers followed by a composite crew of FLCC and Deep Cove paddlers. The 500m masters race saw BCKC finish 1st ahead of the RCKC boat. The BCKC crew consisted of Heide, Harm, Katja, Dan, Tom, Micky, Darrell, Dave, Rikst, Lauren, Jeff, Emily, Rebecca, Ben and was coxed by Jim.
In the 500m bantam war canoe race the composite FLCC and Deep Cove crew coxed by Ryan finished 1st ahead of the RCKC and the BCKC/Gig Harbor crews.

Bantam/Masters Championships

BCKC had a big group take part in last weekend's BC Bantam and Master Sprint Championships held at Whonnock Lake in Maple Ridge. The masters womens K4 crew of Heide, Joanne, Danny and Katja were in a close race against a composite crew from RCKC and Cascade. In the mens race Daryl, Micky and Darrell teamed with Bob from Deep Cove Performance Paddling and work well to power their K4. The BCKC crew of Ben, Dan, Hugh and Keith followed in close behind. The BCKC youth paddlers consisted of bantams Emily and Rebecca, pee wees Jennifer, Stanely, David and Quinn and atoms Tess, Eric and Nabil.

2006 Nationals/Canmas

Burnaby was well represented at the 2006 Canadian National Sprint Canoe Championships held in Regina from August 23-27. Katja won gold in the master A womens K1 500m and Keith Major won bronze in the master B mens K1 1000m. Other paddlers representing BCKC were Conor Wollbaum, Brenden Fitspatrick, Heide Eden, Daryl Remmler and Jeff Raymond. BCKCers Jim Nosella and Kiran Basra competed for RCKC in order to enter teamboat events as BCKC did not have enough athletes to field our own teamboat crews.

BCKC fielded an even larger squad for Canmas, with enough athletes to enter war canoe races. Jim Nosella coxed our crew to a fine result in the 500m race which earned BCKC the Archie MacGlashen Award which was presented to the team at the post event dinner/awards ceremony. BCKC's Canmas athletes consisted of Dan, Micky, Daryl, Darrell, Heide, Katja, Lynn, Dave, Keith, Frid, Catherine and Jeff.
