Feels like spring!

Our Sunday group was down to 3 paddlers this week: Katja, Jeff and Sara. The weather was a mixed bag, started off sunny and windy then became calm and cloudy then as we were finishing up a light rain began to fall. Typical spring like conditions. Better than the snow we drove through to get to the lake for Saturday's practice. The forecast for the coming week is for freezing overnight temperatures during the middle of the week. Hopefully the lake does not freeze over again!

FCRCC Dueling Hearts Regatta

We were treated to a sunny and warm west coast morning today for the Dueling Hearts Regatta hosted by False Creek Racing Canoe Club. BCKCers Ben, Katja, Jeff, Kiran, Jim, Coach Lynn, Rebecca and John took part in the festivities. The event was mostly attended by outrigger canoe paddlers, with the Burnaby crew racing our speedy K1, K2 and surf ski watercraft. The water conditions were mostly flat giving the flatwater boats a slight edge over the open water specialized surf skis. There was just enough motor boat traffic in the inlet to create the odd set of waves to make the K1 racers a bit nervous. The FCRCC event organizers and volunteers did a nice job with the regatta and gave out lots of cool draw prizes and lots of chocolate treats to help replenish our depleted energy stores, or at least to give us a massive chocolate buzz!

Back to rain

Finally, the rain returned to the west coast and we have our lake back. After missing yesterdays practise due to the lake partially being frozen Dan, Jeff and Katja met today for a paddle on an ice-free lake. A steady drizzle is a welcome change from the biting cold.
