Tuesday Night Race at Deep Cove

BCKC had a big turnout at last night's Tuesday Night Race at Deep Cove. The race course was 8km distance starting from the Cove, heading around Jug Island then Racoon Island then around the lighthouse at Lone Rock Point and back to the Cove. BCKC's participants included: Emily (Tornado K1), Heidi (Huki S1-X surfski), Ben (Baidarka K1), Katja (Think evo surfski), Daryl (Think evo surfski), John (Fenn Millenium surfski), Jeff (Think evo surfski), Kiran (Plastex Olympic Warrior K1), Conor (C-Lion OC1) and Darrell (Current Designs Extreme sea kayak). Darrell is the little dot in the background racing to get into the picture after returning from his rather extended post race cool down paddle. Results from the race will be posted at http://www.deepcovekayak.com/frames.php, then click on the racing tab and then the 2007 Schedule/Results tab.

FLCC Paddler's Classic

Many BCKCers took part in Saturday's Paddler's Classic regatta hosted by Fort Langley Canoe Club. The first event of the day was a 10 km race contested by Emily and Conor in C1's and Dan, Katja, Rebecca, Kiran and Jim in K1's. The featured 18 km Paddler's Classic race was contested by John (surfski) and Jeff (K1). After a short break Dan raced K1 again in a 4 km masters race. The final race of the day was 12 km distance with John again paddling surfski while Kiran and Rebecca as well as Jeff and Katja each teamed to race K2. There were many excellent performances on the day but none more impressive than Emily's 10 km C1 race. The river was running quite fast with the heavy spring run off making the upriver legs of the race quite challenging, but Emily stuck with her objective and completed the entire distance. WELL DONE EMILY!
BCKC had many volunteers help with the days event: Kamal and Debbie officiated on the start/finish line while Dave, Vicki and Ron worked safety boats and as turning judges.
Check out the results section of our website for full details of the regatta.

War Canoe training has begun

No picture unfortunately, but just a quick note that BCKC kicked off our masters war canoe season with a nice turnout to Wednesday evening's first session of the year. Lynn had 12 canoers in her boat and we were surprisingly stable considering we hadn't been in the boat since September and that there were 4 first timers in the boat. Anyone interested in joining the BCKC war canoe team should contact info@burnabylake.com for more information, or just show up on Wednesday evening at 7pm to give it a try.
