Nanaimo Regatta

On the July 28/29 weekend BCKCers Rebecca, Emily, Kiran, Jim, Katja, Frid, Jeff, John, Dave and recent transfers Clara and Katie participated in the BC Champs Regatta at Long Lake hosted by Nanaimo Canoe and Kayak Club. Some terrific performances were put forth by the BCKC team and everyone is looking to be rounding into good form for the upcoming Canadian Nationals to take place in Ottawa during late August. The pictures above show the K4 team of Rebecca, Chantry, Katja and Kiran as well as the war canoe crew composed of BCKCers and friends from FLCC and RCKC.

July update by Coach Lynn

July has proven to be an extremely busy month for us all, and we are only half way through it! With many of our Master paddlers racing the weekly Tuesday Night Races at Deep Cove, many of them are also competing in surf ski races across the province. Our young guns have been on the move, with all of them competing at the annual Canada Day Regatta in Regina. Following the 3-day regatta, Jim and Kiran traveled to Lake Placid to compete with other athletes from BC. While Conor and Emily began training at the Ridge Canoe/Kayak Club, Rebecca traveled to Ottawa to train with a huge group of athletes at the Rideau Canoe Club, which is the site of the National Championships held in August. Our BCKC athletes are proving that they can adjust to many situations and can compete at a national level. Coach Lynn has also been on the move, as she is one of the Canadian Jr. World Team coaches. Lynn recently returned from Ottawa and Lake Placid where she was coaching the Jr. Team, and was lucky to meet up with Rebecca in Ottawa and Jim and Kiran and the other BC athletes in Lake Placid! She is off again soon to return for Ottawa for some final preparation before she heads off to the Czech Republic with the Jr. World Team. But don’t be fooled that our club is empty with all these busy bodies traveling all over, our lessons and day camps are filling up fast, most are full! And our Master’s war canoe paddlers are still working hard, hoping they get the opportunity to compete at CanMas in August!
